There was a clean sweep of wins in league and cup action today for Spalding United, Holbeach United, Deeping Rangers and Bourne Town.

The Tulips scored a morale-boosting 1-0 win over title contenders Sutton Coldfield Town in a crucial Evo-Stik Division One South match at Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

Former Holbeach United striker Matty Nolan scored on his debut for Spalding to secure their first win in five league and cup matches.

A Lee Dube hat-trick wasn’t enough to give Holbeach a win over UCL Division One side Olney Town in the third round of the UCL KO Cup at Carter’s Park.

It took an extra time goal from Matty Warfield to send the Tigers through to a quarter final tie at home against another Division One side, Potton United, on a date to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, Deeping Rangers made it consecutive Saturday wins in the UCL Premier with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Northampton Sileby Rangers at the Haydon Witham Stadium.

Rangers’ skipper Spencer Tinkler gave his side the lead from the penalty spot before Sileby equalised after Deeping central defender Joe Braithwaite conceded a spot-kick.

But substitute Ian Ward scored on the hour mark with his first touch of the game after coming on as a substitute.

In UCL Division One, Bourne Town hit Irchester United for six, without reply, in a 6-0 win at Alfred Street that overturned a 7-3 home loss to the same team on the opening day of the season.

Finally in rugby union, Spalding lost their 20th game of the season after a 45-7 defeat against Market Rasen and Louth at Tyrrells Yard in Cowbit.

In Midlands Four East (South), Deepings suffered their fourth straight defeat with a 25-13 loss to Brackley at Linchfield Road.
