SPALDING UNITED 1 (Mowbray 30) DEEPING RANGERS 1 (M Jones 54): ANDY Stanhope admits his nervous Tulips are missing that winning feeling after rivals Deeping frustrated them for a second time in four days.

Mark Jones’ second-half strike clinched Rangers a deserved derby draw in the UCL Premier Division clash at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Tuesday night.

Spalding striker Simon Mowbray had earlier opened the scoring on the half hour, but Stanhope’s charges have now gone four competitive games without a win so far this season.

Next in the firing line for “Stan’s” men are Kempston Rovers on Saturday (3pm) – and the Spalding supremo is desperate for three points.

He said: “We’re really suffering with a lack of confidence at the moment, but I think a win will change that.

“It’s early days and I’m not getting worried, but the lads are looking nervous on the pitch.

“I thought we did OK in the first half and overall I can’t argue with the result, it could have gone either way.

“I thought Simon Mowbray was excellent in attack, but we missed Liam Harrold when he had to come off.

“We’ve just got to keep playing our game and the results will come.”

After a scrappy start, Mowbray put Spalding at the second attempt as they looked to avenge Saturday’s 2-1 FA Cup loss at Outgang Road.

Deeping were the stronger side after the interval – and Jones deservedly hauled them level with a back-post finish.

The visitors were incredibly unlucky not to take the lead when two Dave Burton-Jones free-kicks crashed off the post, before Rob Hughes smashed the woodwork with a late effort of his own.

All eyes are now on Saturday’s visit of Kempston. Harrold (ankle) is a major doubt, while JP Duncliffe definitely misses out.

Stanhope expects to dip into the transfer market ahead of the clash, with a right back top of his wish list.
