ANDY Stanhope admits that he’s two players short of his ideal squad ahead of Spalding United’s first pre-season clash at Crowland Town on Saturday.
The Tulips boss is hopeful of adding a right back and central midfield player before their new UCL Premier Division season gets under way at Northampton Spencer on August 13.
Stanhope has identified the duo he wants to sign, but told the Spalding Guardian any deals are still some way from completion.
He said: “I’m happy with the squad we’ve got, but you can always be happier.
“We know who we want but it’s a case of waiting now. A lot of players are still keeping their options open, but we want guys who are committed to our cause. We can keep our options open too, so there’s no rush.”
Stanhope intends to field a strong side at the Snowden Field on Saturday, in a clash which kicks off at 2pm.
The Tulips will start with a strong team in the first half, before giving a few trialists a run-out in the second period.
A number of the squad are carrying niggly knocks after training on Tuesday night, but “Stan” still expects the fixture with the Peterborough League side to be worthwhile.
He added: “It’ll be a good run-out and we’ll take a strong squad. We’ve got a few trialists to look at and it’s important that all of the players get some pitch time before we play the likes of Boston United later in pre-season.”
