EVO-STIK DIVISION ONE SOUTH: Spalding United 2 Tividale 1

Josh Moreman scored his second goal in as many matches to give Spalding United back-to-back wins after a 2-1 success over West Midlands side Tividale.

In a match that started brightly for the home side, defender Neal Spafford headed the Tulips in front after just two minutes when he got on the end of a Dan Lawlor corner to head past Dale keeper Tom Turner.

But instead of capitalising on their clear superiority over their Black Country opponents, Spalding were instead content to play a holding game, although Moreman should have made it 2-0 on the quarter-hour mark when he headed a Lawlor right wing corner straight at Turner.

Jordan Nuttell headed another Lawlor corner over from six yards out on 19 minutes but, in truth, Spalding were largely untroubled by the Dale who seemed to be intent on playing football in the air.

The only other half-chance of note in the first half was a Lawlor free kick on 26 minutes which just missed the heads of strikers Tom Waumsley and Michael Frew as they bore down on the opposition goal.

But the Tulips were caught cold just two minutes into the second half when Tividale left back Jason Chilton found time and space to cross from the Spalding right as Dale striker Ashley Jackson found himself all alone to head past an exposed Michael Duggan.

This gave Tividale their best spell of the game, although Adam Millson carved out a half-chance from a Moreman cut-back which was shot straight at Tom Turner.

Moreman continued to look threatening down the Tividale right which it made it fitting that he scored the winner when a Lawlor corner came out to Millson who volleyed into a crowd of players, the ball deflecting into the path of Moreman to score.

Tividale made a double substitution with ten minutes left as time was running out but apart from a tame George Zuerner shot from 15 yards out for the Tulips, the game fizzled out to give Spalding seven points out of nine to leave Pat Rayment “ecstatic”.
