Tulips boss wants to sign 10

ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY: Jordan Nuttell will be offered a chance to come back to Spalding next term after fitness problems restricted his appearances.

Nine players will be offered deals to stay at Spalding United with manager Pat Rayment aiming to add up to 10 summer signings.

The new-look squad will be put together as quickly as possible after the Tulips just missed out on a promotion play-off place.

Rayment is ready to go into the transfer market – but he wants more value for money from the club’s budget.

He said: “We have put our feet in the water with three or four potential new signings.

“And we won’t be hanging about in terms of going after our targets.

“We want decisions from those players in our timescale to get it sorted out.

“Gone are the days where a lot of players used to wait for other offers.

“We have drawn up a list of players so next week myself and Marcus Ebdon (assistant-manager) will sit down to look at how we are going forward.

“It’s nice for the club when players are ringing us to ask to come here.

“They know we pay decent wages and, quite honestly, I will make sure those players coming in will be worth that money.

“They will be better than those currently at the club.

“We’re looking to bring in eight to 10 signings.

“Eight members of the current squad will be offered new deals for next season along with Jordan Nuttell, who will be given the opportunity to come back after his injury problems.

“We’ll be bringing in a few trialists and it’s going to be a heavy schedule of pre-season fixtures.

“Our mistakes will be easily rectified by bringing in better players.

“I have to thank everyone for their support this season – the fans, volunteers and our board of directors.”
