Trophy party after loss for Tulips as Rangers hit Holbeach for four

Spalding United lifted the UCL Premier Division trophy today and a 2-1 defeat to Huntingdon Town wasn’t going to spoil the day.

Full back Jamie Thurlbourne levelled for the Tulips after they were caught cold by the Cromwellians with a 25-yard stunning volley from Chris Jones.

But slack marking allowed Huntingdon sub Jacob Joyce to head home what proved to be the winner in a game where two players were sent off.

Danny Hussey was given his marching orders for kicking out at a Huntingdon player before Billy Oliver made sure the match ended ten-a-side after e pulled back Dan Cotton when the Tulips winger was through on goal.

Spalding go to Deeping Rangers for their final game of season, with Tuncay Korkmaz’s side in red hot form after a 4-0 blitz of Holbeach Town.

Alex Beck, Jamie Graham, Ryan Oliver and Scott Ginty were on target for Rangers who now know that they will play Huntingdon Town in the final of the UCL Premier Division Knockout Cup at Yaxley’s In2itive Park ground on Monday May 5 at 3pm.

Finally, Bourne Town need to win their last two games to have any hope of avoiding the risk of demotion from UCL Division One after falling five points behind the nearest time above them with just two games to play.
