Holbeach United will take a break from the title race – but joint-manager John Chand wants to keep up the winning run.
The Tigers face Division One side Rothwell Corinthians in the Knockout Cup at Carter’s Park on Saturday.
A seventh successive win closed the gap behind UCL Premier Division leaders AFC Rushden & Diamonds when Holbeach edged out Wisbech Town on Boxing Day.
Chand said: “We just want to keep the run going.
“We know that there will be some unexpected results in the second half of the season.
“Diamonds have got more points on the board at the moment and we’ve got games in hand.
“But we know they have a big following who will pounce on the slightest mistake and be critical of their team.
“From our own point of view we are happy to be in and around where we want to be.
“In any competition you might as well stay at home if you don’t have any aspirations to win it.
“Saturday’s game will be no difference, although it is an opportunity to utilise the squad fully before we play at home to Yaxley in the league on Wednesday.
“January is a big month for us with tough games against Yaxley and Kempston before the FA Vase trip to Thurnby Nirvana and the visit from Diamonds.
“It was pleasing on Boxing Day to have a game plan which worked. We wanted to get the ball forward quickly and put them under pressure.
“When you look back in May it’s all about the points rather than performances.”
