Spalding United’s assault on the Evo-Stik Division One playoff places is still on track after a 2-0 win over Market Drayton Town at Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field today.

A second-half double from Tom Waumsley, putting him on 20 goals for the season so far, moved the Tulips up to fourth place in Division One, ten points off leaders Mickleover Sports who Spalding host in three weeks time.

In the UCL Premier division, Holbeach United grabbed a 2-2 draw at AFC Kempston Rovers where the game kicked off 25 minutes late because of traffic congestion on the A1.

Lee Beeson opened the scoring after just 39 seconds before Kempston took a 2-1 lead before half time.

But Beeson equalised from the penalty spot to give Tigers boss John Chand his second point since taking sole charge after Graham Drury’s departure last Saturday.

There was a bonus for Holbeach after re-signing former Spalding marksman Andrew Tidswell.

Deeping Rangers lost 1-0 at Eynesbury Rovers in a game where Adam Scotcher was sent off.

In UCL Division One, Bourne Town lost 2-0 at Peterborough Sports and in rugby union, Spalding lost 81-12 at Newark in Midlands One East, defeat number 21 of the season for Town.

Finally in Midlands Four East (South), Deepings crushed Corby 71-0 as Bourne lost 53-15 to Old Newtonians at Milking Nook Drove.
