Friendly rivalries will be renewed when Long Sutton Athletic take on Sutton Bridge United in the final of the Spalding Inter Services Cup on Easter Saturday.

Long Sutton booked their place in the final at Carter’s Park, Holbeach, on April 4 with a 4-1 extra time win over Old Doningtonians at Donington Cowley Primary School.

Vince Mackie’s side from Long Sutton had to come from a goal down through skipper Jimmy Ward to take the game into extra time.

But a brace of penalties from Tim Lowe and a fourth from Sam Cooper set up the Carter’s Park showdown and give Long Sutton a chance to salvage something after a disappointing season in Peterborough and District League Division One, where they have won only five games.

Assistant manager Jeremy King said: “It was a very evenly contested game which we felt should have been won by ourselves before extra time.

“We were the fitter side in the second half but we missed chances until the first quarter of extra time when we were awarded two penalties.

“Sam Cooper wrapped the tie up for us and we’re pleased to be in the final.”
