A striker shortage is threatening to derail Spalding United’s promising debut season in Evo-Stik Division One South – but manager Pat Rayment is determined to find answers.

The Tulips’ hopes of a title challenge were dealt a potentially fatal blow with a 1-0 defeat at Gresley and they travel to fifth-placed Stafford Rangers on Saturday.

Rayment will be without suspended strikers Matty Nolan and Greg Smith, while Jordan Hempenstall will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

“We were very poor in the second half against Gresley and I’ve got to do something about it,” Rayment said.
