Friday night brings the first home game of a new era at Spalding United.

The Tulips take on Stamford in the Lincolnshire FA Senior Cup first round.

Following the takeover by a consortium and a series of changes to the squad, this is an opportunity for fans to see Pat Rayment’s new-look line-up ahead of the Evo-Stik League First Division South season.

The Spalding boss said: “It will be an acid test because I view Stamford as being like a top team in our league after narrowly avoiding relegation last season.

“I want us to win mainly on the basis that it would give us another game next week.

“But patience will be key. A lot of young players have come to the club and we hope that the balance is right.

“Now it’s up to us to get the lads gelling together as soon as possible, which is important in terms of what we are trying to achieve.

“This is the blueprint which we have set out for ourselves with young, hungry players.”

If the scores are level after 90 minutes, Friday’s match would go straight to a penalty shoot-out without extra-time being played.

The winners will be at home in the quarter-final against Gainsborough Trinity on Tuesday.

Trialists Mapeo Mendes, Will Rawdon and George Zuerner have signed forms with Spalding.

They were all substitutes in Tuesday’s 4-1 win at Oakham United.

Summer signings Josh Moreman, Neal Spafford and Michael Frew were all on target before the break and last season’s top scorer Tom Waumsley came off the bench to get another goal midway through the second half.

Defender Paul Walker was taken off as a precaution and a thigh injury must be assessed ahead of Friday’s cup tie.
