DEEPING RANGERS 4 (Burton-Jones 63, Moreman 75, Heron 77, M Jones 84) COGENHOE UNITED 1 (Bushell 8): CUP kings Deeping made yet more history as a strong second-half comeback saw them make record progress in the FA Vase.
After falling behind in the first half of an all UCL Premier Division second round tie on Saturday, strikes from David Burton-Jones, Josh Moreman, Matt Heron and the prolific Mark Jones were enough at Outgang Road.
The victory banks Tuncay Korkmaz’s men £1,200 in prize money – and books them a a trip to Newcastle Benfield in the third round proper.
Having also made their best-ever progress in the FA Cup this season, Rangers are becoming quite the cup specialists.
Korkmaz said: “It’s the furthest the club has ever gone in the competition and hopefully the run won’t end here.
“We know we have the firepower to win football matches. We are creating stacks of chances and could easily have scored eight in this game.”
Rangers have let summer signing Tony Battersby and defender Kris Jones – who has returned to rivals Sleaford Town – leave the club, but have signed up ex-Peterborough United youth striker Scott Ginty from Ebbsfleet.
Rangers: Doughty, Evans, Jackson, Tinkler, Julian (Fenton), Weston, M Jones, Burton-Jones, Gilbert (Moreman), Heron (Cox), Brader. Not used: Korkmaz.
• Saturday – Kempston v Deeping (3pm).
