RANGERS: Problems mount for Deeping after demolition

Have your say

ST IVES TOWN 6 (Washington 14, 64 & 70, McDougald 50, Ellison 51, Oliver OG 81) DEEPING RANGERS 0: EVERYTHING went wrong for Rangers on Saturday as they crashed to their biggest defeat of the season.

Deeping saw defender Steve Julian sent off in the rout, while keeper James Doughty, striker Josh Moreman and defender Ryan Birtles all limped off to add to an already lengthy Outgang Road injury list.

Conor Washington was chief destroyer for the Saints with a hat-trick, while former Rangers skipper Lee Ellison and ex-pro Junior McDougald also notched before a late Ryan Oliver own goal rubbed salt in Deeping’s wounds.

Player/boss Tuncay Korkmaz now has just FIVE first team players fully fit for tonight’s UCL Premier Division visit of Wellingborough Town (7.45pm).

He said: “What can you do? Nobody likes to lose 6-0, but in the circumstances the score is irrelevant.

“When the final whistle went it wasn’t the result I was worried about, but the next three games, which could be a massive problem for us.

“As we speak I’ll have about seven players taking fitness tests before Wellingborough and only five 100 per cent fit.

“Every team has injuries and we’ll bounce back.

“We’ve not become a bad side over night and I’m confident we’ll rediscover some form soon enough.”

Striker Oliver plays his last game for the club tonight before heading off on his travels.

Deeping: Doughty (Leisner), Gilbert, Jackson, Fenton, Julian, Birtles (Korkmaz), Moreman (Oliver), Heron, Tinkler, Battersby, M Jones.
