DEEPING RANGERS 2 (Battersby 25, Moreman 65) SLEAFORD TOWN 0: JOSH Moreman was both hero and villain as Rangers cruised into the second round of the Lincs FA Senior Shield on Tuesday night.
The striker bagged Deeping’s second at Outgang Road after Tony Battersby had opened the scoring, but was sent off for two yellow cards late on.
Moreman is the second Rangers ace to be sent off in four days, following Matty Evans’ dismissal at Ollerton on Saturday.
Tuncay Korkmaz’s men started the brighter and saw Moreman rattle the crossbar with a stinging free kick in the opening exchanges.
The pressure eventually paid off after 25 minutes as Battersby headed in off the post from a corner – and that’s how it stayed at half time.
Kris Jones was unfortunate to see a header ruled out after the break, but Moreman put the game beyond Sleaford 25 minutes from time when he turned home a David Burton-Jones free kick.
But there was still time for the ex-Peterborough Northern Star hitman to pick up a second bookable offence in the closing stages.
Deeping will be hoping to continue their excellent cup form against Evo-Stik League First Division South side Leek Town in the FA Cup on Saturday (3pm).
Rangers: Doughty, Tinkler, Fenton, K Jones, Julian (Jackson), Gilbert, M Jones, Burton-Jones, Battersby (Oliver), Heron (Cox), Moreman.
