DEEPING RANGERS 5 (M Jones 43, 64 & pen 78, Moreman 47, Battersby 73) NORTHAMPTON SPENCER 0: MARVELLOUS Mark Jones buried a hat-trick as Rangers bounced back in style on Saturday.

After last Tuesday’s morale-sapping 5-1 home loss to King’s Lynn Town, this was the perfect response from Tuncay Korkmaz’s men.

Josh Moreman and Tony Battersby were also on target in the Outgang Road romp. And, having played less games than anybody else in the top half of the UCL Premier Division, Deeping are in something of a false position in ninth.

Player/boss Korkmaz said: “The big thing was keeping a clean sheet after what happened against Lynn.

“That was our worst performance of the season and we needed to bounce back. To keep Spencer out was pleasing and scoring five at the other end was a nice bonus.”

Deeping had to wait until the 43rd minute to open the scoring. David Burton-Jones released Jones, who scored at the near post.

Moreman doubled the lead after the break, curling home a trademark cracker, before Jones beat two men and fired home number three.

Battersby jumped off the bench to make the game safe from close range, while Jones completed his treble from the spot after Spencer’s Nathan Smith was red carded.

Deeping: Doughty, Evans, Fenton, Tinkler, Julian (K Jones), Gilbert, M Jones, Burton-Jones, Oliver (Battersby), Heron, Moreman (Cox). Not used: Birtles.

• DEEPING have been booted out of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy for fielding the ineligible Nick Jackson in their 2-0 win over Sleaford Town.

Jackson featured for Stamford against Brigg Town in the Lincs FA Senior Shield before joining Rangers.

Amazingly, Sleaford also fell foul of the same rule having played ineligible keeper Doug Lindberg.

He appeared for Lincoln City against Grimsby Town in the Lincs Senior Cup.

Players may not feature for more than one team in any Lincs FA competition.

Tonight – PNS v Deeping (7.45pm); Saturday – St Ives v Deeping (3pm).
