DEEPING RANGERS 2 (M Jones 2 & 88) DESBOROUGH TOWN 0: MARK Jones can do nothing wrong at the moment.

Deeping’s leading scorer bagged another brace on Saturday to fire them to a third win in seven days – and take his tally to an impressive 16 for the season.

That was more than enough to see off the UCL Premier Division’s basement boys at Outgang Road, but Jones’ purple patch hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The striker’s red-hot form – which has seen him notch seven goals in five games – has attracted the attention of League Two side Crewe Alexandra, who will give him a trial this week.

Deeping player/boss Tuncay Korkmaz said: “Mark can’t stop scoring. He is having a cracking season and everyone hopes he can show Crewe what he is about.”

It took just two minutes for Jones to open the scoring, as he slotted home coolly.

Stand-in keeper Jamie Lowndes was forced to make a super stop from a free kick before the break, though.

Debutant winger Kevin Brader, signed from Peterborough Sports, smashed the bar in the second half, before Jones sealed the win late on after good work from George Cox.

Deeping: Lowndes, Evans, Fenton, Tinkler, Julian, Gilbert, M Jones (Jackson), Cox, Battersby (Burton-Jones), Weston (Logan), Brader.

Tonight: Deeping v Rushden & Higham (Hinchingbrooke Cup, 7.45pm); Saturday: Yaxley v Deeping (3pm).
