RAMPANT Deeping Rangers crushed lower-graded Rushden and Higham United 8-1 in a Hinchingbrooke Cup romp at Outgang Road on Tuesday night.
Two early headers from defender Steve Julian (2 & 4) gave Rangers the perfect start in the Preliminary Round clash, but Jack Dyson pulled one back for the Lankies on 16 minutes.
That was as good as it got for the visitors though, as Chris Logan – making his first Rangers start after joining from S & L Corby – nodded home a Josh Moreman corner on 38 minutes to make it 3-1 at the break.
It was all Deeping in the second half, as fellow new recruit Kevin Brader chipped home his first goal for the club (52) and Tony Battersby (55) swept home number five.
There was still time for sub George Cox to bury a cross from Kev Gilbert on the hour, while the prolific Moreman bagged a late brace (77 & 82) to complete the scoring.
Deeping face a derby with runaway UCL Premier Division leaders Peterborough Northern Star in the next round.
Rangers: Doughty, Tinkler, Jackson, Logan, Julian (Evans), Weston, Brader, Stebbing (Gilbert), Battersby (Cox), Heron, Moreman. Not used; Fenton, Lowndes.
