RANGERS: Deeping comeback stuns Bucks

LONG BUCKBY 2 (Bunting 22, Burton-Jones OG 43) DEEPING RANGERS 3 (M Jones 49, Heron 50, Moreman 80): CUP kings Deeping became the first United Counties League side to beat Long Buckby this season as Josh Moreman struck a late winner at Station Road.

Rangers were 2-0 down at half-time in the League Cup tie, but two goals in a minute from Mark Jones and Matt Heron restored parity before Moreman struck a stunning clincher late on.

Tuncay Korkmaz’s side will play Holbeach United or Division One side Wootton Blue Cross in the quarter-finals – and the Turkish tactician sees no reason why his team can’t go all the way and win the competition.

The player/boss said: “I couldn’t be more proud. This is a competition we want to win and we’ve shown that’s possible by knocking out a team that hadn’t lost to anyone else in the UCL this season. What a great day for us.”

Buckby, whose two losses this season have come in the FA Cup and FA Vase, have won all 15 of their UCL Premier Division games this season.

But Deeping beat them without fielding a recognised central defender – and could even afford to see Jones miss a penalty.

Deeping: Doughty, Evans, Simpson, Burton-Jones, Jackson, Brader, Gilbert, Weston, Moreman, Heron, M Jones. Not used: Waumsley, Leisner, Korkmaz.

Festive fixtures: Dec 26 – Blackstones v Deeping; Dec 30 – Deeping v St Ives.
