Pat’s selection headache

LEADING SCORER: But Andrew Tidswell has a fight on for his place.

Spalding United manager Pat Rayment has a major selection headache for Saturday - but he couldn’t be happier.

The Tulips head to Chasetown in the Evo-Stik League First Division South and Rayment has a tough decision about which forwards to pick.

He will choose between leading scorer Andrew Tidswell and the in-form Tom Waumsley, and will partner one of them with either Ryan Oliver or recent signing Jordan Nuttell.

It is the decision between the two former Holbeach United strikers, Tidswell and Waumsley, which could be the toughest to make.

Young gun Waumsley followed his hat-trick against Rainworth Miners Welfare with another goal in Saturday’s emphatic 6-1 FA Trophy success at Soham Town Rangers, but Tidswell is the league’s joint-third highest scorer with eight and bagged more than 30 goals in the first half of last season before injury ruled him out for the rest of the UCL title-winning campaign.

Rayment said: “Marcus Ebdon and I have plenty to chew on and it is a nice selection headache to have.

“I think ‘Tids’ and Tom suit playing with Jordan or Ryan, rather than playing together, while George Stainfield also did very well on his first start and has given me plenty to think about.”

Skipper Michael Leary returns after missing the Soham clash due to a family bereavement and Rayment is determined to gain revenge for a 2-0 defeat at home to Chasetown in August.

Rayment added: “Our early-season performances were not reflected in our results but I think Chasetown could be in for a shock.

“We played very well for 60 minutes last time without scoring and for the final 30 minutes we never looked like scoring but now the goals are going in and we are in good form.”
