  • Win for Wakes, draw for Rangers but last gasp defeat for Tigers

The opening day of the 2015/16 UCL Premier and Division One seasons brought a mixed bag of results for Holbeach United, Deeping Rangers and Bourne Town.

But the headlines belong to Holbeach United prospect Jordan Keeble who scored a hat-trick for Tigers’ Reserves in a 5-2 win against Stilton United at Carter’s Park in the Peterborough & District Football League Premier Division.

In sharp contrast, a last-minute penalty from Jake Bettles spelt heartbreak for the Tigers first team who lost 1-0 at the S6 Stadium in Northamptonshire.

Meanwhile, Deeping let a lead slip at the Haydon Witham Stadium where Sileby Rangers grabbed a 1-1 draw, despite having winger Brian Farrell sent off.

Scott Coupland opened the scoring for Rangers from the penalty spot midway through the first half before Liam Fairlamb drove home a 20-yard screamer just a minute into the second period.

After the match, Goode said: “I was disappointed with the result and disappointed with the second half performance.

“We can do a lot better than that, but if we win against Huntingdon Town on Tuesday, it’ll give us four points out of six which is an okay start to the season.”

There were no such problems at the Abbey Lawn where Bourne Town laid down a marker for their UCL Division One opponents with a comfortable 3-0 win over Buckingham Town.

Tyler Sculthorpe and Joe Moore-Papworth gave the Wakes a 2-0 lead before half time and Sculthorpe added a third two minutes before the final whistle.

Bourne boss Rafa Mazzarella said: “I didn’t think we were that good but we scored at the right times, kept a clean sheet and never looked in any danger.
