UCL Premier Division - Wisbech Town 2 Deeping Rangers 1

Tuncay Korkmaz had no complaints after Deeping Rangers were unable to halt Wisbech Town’s title bid.

The Fenmen moved to within seven points of league leaders AFC Rushden & Diamonds with two matches in hand as they notched up a ninth successive victory.

Wisbech had a goal ruled out and hit the crossbar twice before Scott Johnson fired the opener past Danny Bircham.

Two minutes before the break Wisbech extended their lead. Dan Flack was caught dwelling on the ball outside his own area, a quick switch played Josh Ford into space on the right of the box and he beat Bircham with a low shot.

Jezz Goldson-Williams and Jamie Graham both missed chances but Rangers got on the scoresheet in stoppage-time with Spencer Tinkler on target from close range.

Deeping boss Korkmaz said: “All credit to Wisbech – they were better than us and they deserved the win.

“Their first-half display was better than our response in the second period.

“They are a strong side and we were missing a few key players which didn’t help.”

Adam Scotcher, Ben Lewis and David Burton-Jones will be back for Saturday’s trip to Eynesbury Rovers.

Graham could be back in the starting line-up after a chest infection but midfielder Scott Ginty is midway through a four-match ban and Ian Ward is unavailable.
