UCL Premier Division: Deeping Rangers 0 Yaxley 2
Deeping Rangers suffered a third successive home league defeat as Yaxley beat them for the third time this term to maintain their pursuit of leaders AFC Rushden & Diamonds.
There was little goalmouth action in a low-key first half.
Jacob Joyce had a shot deflected wide for the Cuckoos with Scott Carter heading wide at the near post from Dan Cotton’s corner.
Deeping’s best effort was a Matt Carter shot saved by Aaron Butcher.
The Cuckoos posed the greater goal threat on resumption with David Cobb curling a shot wide and Danny Bircham saving well from Cotton.
When Deeping replied Mohammed Hamid shot over from the edge of the box while Bircham turned away Joyce’s shot.
The deadlock was broken after 64 minutes when Yaxley substitute Ricky Hailstone’s shot from long range took a deflection and looped over Bircham.
Liam Tunstall - making his home debut - broke clear on the right of the area to draw a fine save from Butcher but the contest was put beyond Deeping when Dan Flack was dismissed for a foul on Cotton as the last man.
Cotton sealed the Yaxley win two minutes into added time after a wayward back-pass left Bircham stranded.
Deeping: Bircham, Flack, Smith, Tinkler, Braithwaite, Burton-Jones, Palmer (Sparrow), Ginty, Goldson-Williams, Hamid (Tunstall), Carter.
Midfielder Scott Ginty - sent off for the second time this season when Deeping lost to Diamonds two weeks ago - will start a four-match ban at home to Sileby Rangers on Saturday.
