Marcus Ebdon will come up against a familiar face at the Sir Halley Stewart Field on Saturday.

Spalding United are looking to bounce back from their first league defeat since Ebdon took charge following last weekend’s 2-0 loss at league leaders Stafford Rangers.

The Tulips face seventh-placed Basford United who are managed by Ebdon’s former Peterborough United team-mate Martin Carruthers.

Spalding drew 2-2 away to Basford in September after Josh Moreman’s first-half double.

Ebdon said: “They are a very good side and totally different to the team we met earlier this season.

“I know Martin well from our time at Peterborough and he’s also involved in the youth set-up at Basford.

“We need to work as hard as we can to get ourselves back to winning ways.”

The trip to Gresley was called off due to a waterlogged pitch on Tuesday.

The Boxing Day game at Lincoln United will kick off at 2pm.
