A LATE Blackstones leveller forced Spalding United to settle for a 1-1 draw in the UCL Premier Division on Tuesday night, while Deeping Rangers were beaten 3-2 at leaders Peterborough Northern Star.

The returning Greg Smith fired the Tulips into a 29th minute lead at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, making it 11 for the season already.

It looked like Andy Stanhope’s side would hold on for the win, but Michael Nelson struck nine minutes from time to earn Stones a share of the spoils.

It’s now three draws on the bounce for Spalding and six in total in the Premier Division, which is more than any other team. They stay in the top five, but have played more games (14) than anyone else.

Meanwhile, Deeping missed a great chance to end Northern Star’s 12-game winning run at Chestnut Avenue.

Ex-Spalding keeper Luke McShane was sent off 20 minutes into his PNS debut, meaning the hosts played for 70 minutes with striker Karl Gibbs in goal.

The hosts were already ahead through Luke Hipwell (15) and doubled their advantage through Richard Jones’ header (38).

Avelino Vieira looked to have sealed the points with a bizarre third on the hour, but Deeping finally woke up and launched a late fightback through Matt Heron (87) and George Cox (90).

But it was too little, too late for Tuncay Korkmaz’s men, who slip to 11th place.
