Spalding United need to get back to winning ways with a number of their promotion rivals taking a break from league action on Saturday.

The Tulips can close the gap behind the top two and stay ahead of the chasing pack with victory at mid-table Basford United on Saturday.

While other clubs are on FA Trophy duty, Spalding will aim to find form following four defeats in seven games.

Boss Dave Frecklington said: “We have let ourselves down as a group.

“But having a few players back should make us a lot stronger, especially in the defence which was a quite successful unit last season in terms of keeping clean sheets.

“The only member of the back four who was missing is Adam Jackson and he should return this weekend.

Other teams are playing in the FA Trophy so we need to take advantage by putting the pressure on when they need to win those games in hand.

“We’ve watched Basford and got a couple of reports on them.

“We know they are a very good side who should have three more points as they got a deduction for fielding an ineligible player.

“They have only lost one home game and we’ve only lost once away in the league.

“We’ve had a sticky patch but we are going there to win the game, not settling for a draw.

“Basford train and play on the 4G pitch which must be a factor behind their form at home.

“However, we’ve got to sort ourselves out and get back to winning ways.

“We have lost games due to individual errors rather than bad performances.”
