SPALDING United earned their most emphatic win in recent memory as thay battered Irchester United 7-0 on Saturday, while Holbeach United slipped to a 2-1 home defeat against Peterborough Northern Star.

The Tulips were in emphatic form against a woeful Irchester outfit at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, as Simon Mowbray’s superb early effort got the ball rolling.

Rob Hughes (13) made it two from close range, before a Greg Smith header (31) and Danny French’s cool finish (33) put Andy Stanhope’s side in complete command by the break.

Perhaps the pick of the goals came from Jammal Shahin on 47 minutes, but a clinical second-half double from Smith (55 and 72) ensured that the big striker went home with the match ball.

It’s now three games unbeaten for Spalding, who have picked up seven UCL Premier Division points in a week.

Meanwhile, the Tigers slipped to a second defeat in four days at Carter’s Park.
