Deeping Rangers and Holbeach United warmed up for next week’s derby date with hard-fought wins on Saturday.

The Clarets recorded an eighth successive league victory as Charlie Coulson’s late strike proved enough against Desborough Town who dropped to third place in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division.

It was unlucky 13 for Ar Tarn as they suffered an 11th defeat in 12 seasons at their bogey ground.

Desborough’s 12-match unbeaten league run bit the dust as Rangers extended their own winning sequence.

The home side looked the more dangerous with skipper David Burton-Jones thumping a header against the crossbar.

Scott Mooney for Deeping and Jason Turner for Desborough missed good chances but Coulson’s goal after 85 minutes was ultimately decisive.

Deeping are up to fifth - two points behind Holbeach ahead of Wednesday’s game at Carter’s Park.

The Tigers picked up three points on their travels to move into fourth place.

After a scoreless first half, Jordan Thomas put them ahead four minutes into the second period.

With a quarter of an hour remaining the Holbeach advantage was extended by Jack Smith.

An 83rd-minute Rothwell Corinthians reply from Jordan Henson made it an anxious finale but the Tigers held on.

After a couple of defeats, Bourne Town picked up a confidence-boosting goalless draw as they blunted the free-scoring Buckingham Town attack at Manor Fields.

The Wakes had lost this Division One fixture in each of the five preceding seasons but broke the run of defeats despite being reduced to 10 men by the dismissal of Andy Moss.

Meanwhile, Spalding United closed the gap at the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South.

The Tulips went ahead through Jenk Acar’s penalty following a foul on Bradley Wells.

Romulus defender Ricardo Dudley was dismissed for violent conduct in first-half stoppage-time.

From the free-kick, Wells doubled the lead but Spalding wasted a series of second-half chances and the 10 men pulled one back through Liam Hailey.
