Holbeach United 2 Eynesbury Rovers 1
Joint-boss Graham Drury was delighted with the hard-fought win which took Holbeach United back to the top of the UCL Premier Division table.
Striker Jamie Clarke’s double at Carter’s Park saw off Eynesbury Rovers - described by Drury as “the best side we have played so far this season”.
He said: “It was a really good win against a good team who were well organised and very physical.
“We had to grind out the victory but big players win big games and Jamie got both goals with great finishes.
“I will give a lot of credit to Eynesbury but we showed that side where we had to dig in and really scrap for it.
“A lot of our players would prefer to be on the ball running at teams instead of battling out there.
“After that performance it was a bonus to go top again as Yaxley slipped up and Huntingdon Town dropped points for the first time.”
Holbeach have two midweek games with Tuesday night’s trip to Sleaford Town followed 24 hours later by the rearranged Lincolnshire Senior Trophy tie at home to Boston Town.
Drury added: “It’s important for us to play this league game in hand knowing a win would stretch our lead.
“But it won’t be easy against Sleaford who will put in a lot of effort.
“We will be going there and making sure the focus is on doing the job by playing to our potential and being strong enough.”
