Boston League Premier Division champions Swineshead Institute clinched the double when they won The BB Insure Willoughby Cup for the first time in their history.
They claimed a 3-0 victory over Division One side Coningsby at Boston Town’s DWB Stadium.
Coningsby almost took a shock lead when they had the ball in the net after 15 minutes, only for Sean Taylor to be flagged offside.
However, four minutes later Swineshead got one that counted as defender James Andrew lofted a high ball forward into the penalty area for skipper Robert Masters to out-jump goalkeeper Andrew Carr and nod home.
Swineshead threatened further when Robert Snaith rolled a shot wide of a post and then Masters’ close-range volley clipped the top of the crossbar.
Swineshead increased their lead on 70 minutes as Masters’ shot rebounded from the inside of the post, back across goal, and nestled in the net.
Masters went close to a hat-trick by firing over the bar before Richard Barker wrapped things up just five minutes from full-time by rifling a fine shot past goalkeeper Andrew Carr.
The cup and individual trophies were presented by Richard Richmond, director of BB Insure.
The man of the match was awarded to Masters.Swineshead’s final league game of the season didn’t go ahead because Benington pulled out of the clash owing to a shortage of players.
Swineshead were forced to stage a friendly match in order to go ahead with their celebrations as league chairman Roger Gell presented the champions with their trophies.
In Division Two, Holbeach Bank’s abandoned game against Spalding Harriers from a previous week has been re-arranged for this Saturday and will be the only league game on the official final day of the season.
