Boss Michael Goode felt “really pleased” as Deeping Rangers made it four points this season against league leaders Leicester Nirvana.

They followed December’s 3-2 home win with a battling 1-1 draw at Gleneagles Avenue on Saturday – becoming only the fourth away team to avoid defeat at the ground.

Although top scorer Scott Coupland missed a hat-trick of chances, Goode was happy as Scott Mooney’s second-half leveller earned a point.

Goode said: “We definitely deserved a point.

“I thought conditions were horrendous which was a real shame as both teams like to get the ball down and play good football.

“We knew the game would be all about whoever took their chances.

Overall we had probably more clear-cut chances and they had greater periods of pressure and possession.

“Overall we had probably more clear-cut chances and they had greater periods of pressure and possession.

“Their goal came from a little bit of poor defending and they had other opportunities but we scored a good goal to get back into the game.

“Coupland will hold his hands up and admit that out of three chances he probably should have scored at least one or two which at that stage would have left us 1-0 or 2-1 up.

“On a good playing surface you would expect him to go through and finish those off.

“Nirvana are a strong and robust side at the top of the league so we are really pleased to have taken four points off them this season.

“In both games we matched them pretty much in every department.

“Most importantly, we have put a marker down for ourselves away from home having lost seven times.

“This performance has shown we can be robust as well.

“We want to play a certain way and create chances but at times you can get caught on the break and leave it open.”
