Patience is key for Bourne Town’s youthful line-up, according to boss Rafa Mazzarella.

The Wakes got off to a winning start at home to 10-man Buckingham Town last weekend thanks to Tyler Scuthorpe (2) and Joe Moore-Papworth.

But Mazzarella felt the display was “way below par” as he called for an improvement when ON Chenecks visit Abbey Lawn on Saturday.

He said: “We had plenty of possession but we were going from side to side and then back again.

“At times we tried to force something which wasn’t really on so it’s just a case of being patient.

“We’ve got a couple of senior players but they are not used to playing that way so this is relatively new to them as well.

“I have always signed players and asked which position they prefer with a second option.

“If they can slot into a couple of positions then I expect them to perform and be comfortable.

“I think the opposition will be tougher this week.

“ON Chenecks seem to get stronger each year and they are a pretty regular outfit with the same core.

“I fully expect them to be in the top five so this is a real test for us. But maybe it’s not a bad thing to meet them at this stage of the season.”

Striker Jake Mason is unavailable again but the Wakes can call on reserve-team goalkeeper Mark Walklin if required.

Reserve-team assistant-boss Jimmy McDonnell deputised between the posts but Mazzarella is in talks with a couple of targets to take over the number one jersey.
