Clubs from south Lincolnshire are being invited to sign up for the Lincolnshire FA Under-21 Development League which is a midweek competition played under floodlights.

The first season featured six teams with Boston United crowned champions ahead of Gainsborough Trinity, Newark Town, CGB Humbertherm, Sleaford Town and Cleethorpes Town.

There are already two new clubs confirmed for the season ahead.

Chief executive officer Phil Hough said: “The league is flexible and while it is all about the development of young players, teams can use an over-age goalkeeper and two over-age outfield players.

“Registration is very simple as clubs can sign players up to 30 minutes before kick-off.

“It worked really well because clubs can look at trialists in competitive football as well as players coming back from injury.

“It also means lads who were sat on the bench on Saturday for the first team could play a midweek match.

“The league is all about development of young players and it’s been very successful.

“But we would like to encourage more teams to get involved, having spoken with the member clubs they would like a game every other week rather than one every three weeks.

“In Lincolnshire we have a diverse geographical spread so we would love to get more teams from the south of the county.

“The ideal scenario would be a league having north and south divisions due to the midweek travelling.

“However, we would need to get more clubs to make that work and we are continuing to speak with a number of
interested clubs.”
