Tributes have been made to Peter Camm, area delegate for Lincolnshire FA and member of Spalding Referees Association, who passed away this morning (Wednesday).
Last month he was honoured by Peterborough Referees Association for his services to football for more than 40 years.
In a statement on their Facebook page today, they wrote: “It is with deep regret that we announce that Peter Camm – a stalwart of the Referees Association in Spalding and Lincolnshire FA – has sadly passed away in the early hours this morning .
“Peter was awarded the Service to Refereeing award at the recent Peterborough Young Referees Evening and has been a member of Spalding RA for over 30 years as well as being a referee for well over 40.
“Peter always supported our efforts with young referees and always came to our Peterborough Select Group induction evening as well as all of the PYR nights.
“Peter was an assessor and until a few weeks ago the assessor co-ordinator and twice previous chairman of Spalding RA, an area delegate for Lincolnshire FA and a council member for the Peterborough FA.
Pete is well-known to all of us in local football circles and his long and dedicated service representing the Lincs FA as area representative should be applauded and respected by everyone.Moulton Harrox FC
“He always said to chairman Rob (Windle) if I am available to watch a young referee I will and I don’t want any expenses.
“His claim to fame was as fourth official he had to come on and run the line in the biggest of East Midlands matches between Derby County and Nottingham Forest in the era of Brian Clough.
“Peter will be sadly missed not only within his family but the footballing community.
“He leaves a wife (Cindy) and two sons.”
The Grantham and District Referees Association wrote: “His ever-present smile and forthright opinions will be missed by us all in the refereeing family.
“Our thoughts are with his family at this time.”
Russell Whitworth, of Moulton Harrox FC, added: “We are saddened to hear the news this morning of the passing of Peter Camm.
“Pete is well-known to all of us in local football circles and his long and dedicated service representing the Lincs FA as area representative should be applauded and respected by everyone.
“Moulton Harrox FC as a club passes on our deepest sympathy to all of Peter’s close family members and friends. We will miss the green blazer. RIP Pete.”
