Spalding Town warmed up for the biggest game of their season so far with an 8-0 demolition of Leverington A in ChromaSport Peterborough League Division Four on Saturday.

A hat-trick from Tomasz Rabiega and strikes from Scott Burrell (2), Gav Bailey, James Thorold and Marcus Parry at the Castle Sports Complex fired Town eight points clear at the top of the table.

The drubbing was the perfect preparation for Spalding’s PFA Junior Cup semi-final against Glinton United, also at the Castle, this Saturday (1.30pm).

Town went ahead when Tom Elderkin’s outside of the boot ball allowed Rabiega to place a perfect lob into the net – then a quick free kick allowed him to make it 2-0 to the hosts.

Burrell tapped in number three from Bailey’s header across goal, before Parry used his pace to round the keeper and make it 4-0.

Rabiega completed his treble before the break, tapping home a rebound after Burrell hit the post. Bailey nodded the sixth and Burrell added his second from a Parry pass before Thorold completed the scoring with a slotted finish.

• A stunning finish from Scott Pemberton fired Tydd St Mary into the PDFL League Shield semi-finals.

The extra-time effort was enough to give the ChromaSport Peterborough League side a 1-0 win at Eye United on Saturday.

Dan Fines and Roger Kissane had chances to win the game for the Saints in normal time, but the winner came two minutes into the additional 30 when top scorer Pemberton netting from Gary Booth’s superb pass.

Hampton Sports (away) await Tydd in the semis on March 22.
