Unbeaten Moulton Harrox passed a tough test in their bid for Premier Division glory as they edged out third-placed Oakham United 2-1 at Broad Lane on Saturday.

After a nervous start from both sides, hosts Harrox went ahead when skipper Bobby Patterson coolly converted a penalty after Ian Bradbury was fouled. That served to wake up Oakham, who duly levelled before the break.

The away side continued to apply pressure early in the second period, but Moulton weathered the storm and went back ahead when Martin Gordon’s run created the opportunity for Bradbury to bury a clinical finish.

Impressive keeping from Dave Panton, who made two important saves late on, helped secure all three points.

With leaders Netherton losing at Parson Drove, Moulton are sitting pretty in the title race.

• Joe Harrison bagged four goals as Moulton Harrox Reserve cruised to a 6-0 success at Hampton Sports in Division One. Lee Hudson and Andy Williams were also on target.

• Pinchbeck United Reserves kick-started their Division Two season with a 5-1 victory at Peterborough Rovers. Jack Chilvers converted Jack Wycherley’s corner mid-way through the first half as Pinchbeck took a deserved lead.

But Daryn Whiteman levelled early after the break to give the hosts hope. However, a clever solo goal by Jamie Cartlidge put Pinchbeck back ahead and then Robbie Relf scored the pick of the goals with his lobbed effort to make it 3-1.

The home side saw James Mumford red carded ten minutes from time, allowing Wycherley and Aiden Moore completed the scoring just before the end – sealing only a second league triumph of the season so far.
