GAINSBOROUGH TOWN 0 MOULTON HARROX 4: Marvellous Moulton won the Lincs Junior Cup for the fourth time in their history after producing a stunning showing at Sincil Bank on Tuesday night.
Harrox, who remain on course for a treble, blew opponents Gainsborough away thanks to goals from Bobby Patterson, Ian Bradbury and substitute Joe Townsend (2).
In what was a bruising encounter, Moulton had three players taken off suffering from concussion, while Town had two players red carded late on. But their indiscipline failed to take the gloss off an incredible performance by the South Holland side.
The Peterborough and District League Premier Division leaders didn’t have things all their own way, with Gainsborough rattling the woodwork twice in the opening exchanges.
Although their opponents were threatening to run riot, it was Harrox who got their noses in front when defender Patterson – named man-of-the-match – fired home the opener on 30 minutes after a goalmouth scramble.
Boosted by their breakthrough, Moulton took the game to their opponents after the break and soon doubled their advantage.
Striker Bradbury danced around two defenders on the edge of the area before delivering an unbelievable chip into the top corner of the net from 15 yards.
With Gainsborough having a man sent off, they began to lose their heads and it was no surprise when Townsend announced his arrival with the third goal. Not done there, Townsend added another before Town had their second man dismissed late on.
It’s Moulton’s first win in the county competition since 2005 and they now have a cracking chance of securing a historic treble.
Next up for them is a home league clash with Uppingham on Saturday (2pm).
Moulton squad: Ian Bradbury, Jonny Clay, Sean Gedney, Billy King, Andy Law, David Panton, Tom Panton, Bobby Patterson, Dan Woods, John Ball, Lee Hudson and Joe Townsend.
