Lethal Josh Ford equalled a Spalding Sunday League record after smashing an incredible 12 goals in one game at the weekend.
The Pinchbeck United Sunday ace plundered his quadruple hat-trick against Spalding Wanderers in a crushing 17-0 success at Knight Street.
Ian Bent was the other man to notch 12 times. That was for Cowbit and Wheatsheaf in the 27-0 massacre of Punchbowl back in 2007.
Pinchbeck player/boss Tom Roberts admitted that his players thought that Ford had broken the record, having believed Tommy Treacher’s nine-goal spree for Holbeach St Johns Exchange in 2005 was the target to beat.
“When he got to ten we really thought that was the record gone,” said Roberts, who guided Pinchbeck to League KO Cup success last month. “I was on the pitch the day Tommy Treacher got nine, so I thought that was his target to beat.
“Obviously we’ve since heard that the record was 12, but it’s still a great achievement. Everyone knows what Fordy is like as a striker... it was just nice to have him sober on a Sunday for once!
“Every chance he had seemed to go in, just like Treach when he got nine.”
Ford, who enjoyed successful spells with Moulton Harrox and Spalding United in Saturday football, has enjoyed a cracking season in front of goal for Boston Town in the UCL Premier Division.
He’s notched 20 goals under the charge of former Pinchbeck first team chief Ian Dunn and ex-skipper Matt Hocking. But he’s played down his deadly dozen, insisting it was easy to score with quality players around him.
Ford said: “When you’ve got players like Tim Cole, Tom Taylor, Jordan Mahon and Simon Clare around you you’re going to get chances. And Callum Stocks and Rick Drury were amazing.
“When you have an influential manager like Tom Roberts offering a drink per goal as well you just need to perform – and that was where my source of motivation came from!”
