King’s Lynn Town FC have missed out on Spalding United target Josh Moreman as they could not match his current wages.
The Linnets’ official Twitter account @officialKLtown last night (Thursday 14) confirmed: “Talks have broken down with Spalding’s Josh Moreman as @officialKLtown could not match his current wages.”
Lynn had put in a seven-day notice of approach to Tulips top scorer Moreman, who numbers Stamford AFC, Deeping Rangers and Corby among his previous clubs.
Walks boss Gary Setchell was able to talk to the 16-goal forward as from last night. Setchell recently said the going rate for a quality forward at this level was £450 per week.
Earlier, Spalding assistant manager Danny Hussey was confident Moreman would stay.
Hussey said: “He is enjoying it here so why would he want to move?
“Until the end of this season we will be fighting for a play-off position and King’s Lynn are mid-table.
“There would be more travelling involved as well so it makes sense to stay with us.
“Hopefully we can keep him because he’s our leading scorer and he’s well liked by everybody at the club.
“Unfortunately we could not keep Jake Newman who had promised to stay – until he was offered a financial deal at Stamford.”
