HOLBEACH UTD YELLOW U/15s 1 ROKER RANGERS U/15s 0: CRAIG Weightman’s strike secured a second successive win for Yellow over their visitors from Sunderland.

The Roker lads, who are managed by ex-Holbeach man Colin McSporran, made the trip down south for the second year on the spin – and despite the score, enjoyed their day at Carter’s Park.

The girls from Spalding’s Polka Dot Acadamy provided pre-match entertainment, before Yellow started well and put early pressure on the visitors.

Holbeach opening the scoring on 14 minutes as good play from Jamie Casey, Tom Coote and Ben Nottingham allowed striker Weightman to fire the ball into the back of the net.

Roker refused to back down though and came back strongly, with only fine defending from Lewis Pryke, Alex Vassallo, Chris Briggs and Kiran Bhondi keeping the Tigers ahead at the break.

In the second half the visitors had a couple of well-struck long range efforts saved by Marcus Clifton, while strong challenges from George Stainfield and Luke Want stopped the visitors getting through.

At the other end, Weightman and Coote came close to another goal but it finished 1-0.

Manager John Coote said: “I would like to thank all the locals that came to support the lads and thanks must go to the Polka Dot girls for their cheerleading.”
