HOLBEACH United U/9s have laid down a marker for the new season by winning the Rippingale tournament.

The title-winning Tigers added yet more silverware to their swelling coffers with a battling display against a number of sides they will be up against in the Peterborough League this year.

Playing in horrific weather on Sunday, Holbeach defeated Group A winners Blackstones 2-0 in the last four to book a final date with Glinton.

In what proved a tight tussle, Holbeach’s slick passing proved key and they clinched the crown with a 1-0 triumph.

Delighted boss Steve Busley said: “This was a taster for the boys as we are entering the Peterborough League next season and all of the teams involved will be our opposition. So to come out on top sets us up for an exciting season.”

Holbeach are looking to add to their championship winning squad.
