SPALDING UNITED 5, PETERBOROUGH NORTHERN STAR 0

United Counties League Knockout Cup

The Tulips are through to the next round after victory in a match delayed for 35 minutes after the late arrival of match officials due to a mix-up over who was officiating.

The home side soon bounced back from last week’s expulsion from the FA Vase when Andrew Tidswell put them into a second minute lead with a close-range header.

It was two after quarter-of-an-hour when PNS defender Luke Hunnings headed past his own keeper, and two minutes later the prolific Tidswell made it 3-0.

Star held out until half-time but 12 minutes into the second period it was four when Sam Mullarkey side footed Dan Cotton’s cross into the back of the net.

Dan Cotton notched the fifth for Spalding with just three minutes remaining.

In the next round Spalding will entertain Boston Town, with the winners of that match at home to Woodford or Potton in the quarter-finals.Deeping Rangers are already through to the last eight and have been drawn at home to Oadby.

Other ties see Cogenhoe or Lutterworth entertain Wellingborough and Wisbech or Huntingdon at home to Kempston or Rothwell Corinthians.

Spalding: Roberts, Fairweather, Jackson, Stevens, Stainfield, Bore, Cotton, Hall, Mullarkey, Tidswell, Thurlbourne. Subs: Lowery, Beeson, Duggan.
