SPALDING United lost their first competitive game of the season 4-2 at Grantham Town on Tuesday night, while Holbeach United’s flawless pre-season continued with a super 1-0 win over Bedford Town at Carter’s Park.

Martin Ball (9) and ex-Tulip Jamie McGhee (25) put Grantham 2-0 up in the Lincolnshire Senior Cup quarter final at the Meeres Stadium, but the Tulips showed real guts to battle back.

Quick-fire strikes from attackers Liam Harrold (72) and Simon Mowbray (77) levelled matters, but a Lee Potts penalty (82) and a late Paul Grimes strike (86) sent Andy Stanhope’s side out.

Meanwhile, Addie Staffieri fired the Tigers to a fourth pre-season win on the bounce against a strong Bedford side.

Another striker, Ashley Stevens, also starred for John Chand’s men on trial.
