Spalding United kicked off the defence of their UCL Knockout Cup crown with a 3-0 win over Olney Town on Saturday, while Deeping Rangers crushed Long Buckby 6-1 to go back to the top of the UCL Premier Division and Holbeach United crashed out of the FA Vase at Blaby and Whetstone.
Starting at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, first-half goals from Lee Canoville, Sam Mullarkey and Lee Beeson eased the Tulips past their UCL Division One opponents.
Skipper Canoville rifled home the opener on ten minutes after visiting keeper Tom Kennard palmed out a low Lee Beeson cross.
It was 2-0 on 24 minutes when Mullarkey ploughed through two tackles on the left and unleashed a powerful drive into the top right corner via the woodwork.
The game was effectively over on 33 minutes when Beeson, who was the star man in the opening period, slotted home a low penalty after Jamie Stevens was hauled down in the box by James Pacifici.
Mark Jones, who could have had a hat-trick in the first period, was twice denied by Kennard after the interval while sub Andrew Tidswell also forced a pair of top stops from the visiting keeper.
As is the norm these days, Spalding keeper Michael Duggan had very little to do as the hosts closed out yet another clean sheet.
Over at Outgang Road, free-scoring Deeping came from behind to smash Long Buckby and extend their unbeaten league run to 11 games.
Josh Crawley (2) fired the Bucks into an early lead, but Mitch Griffiths (4) replied instantly to make it 1-1 at the interval.
It was one-way traffic after the break though as Josh Moreman (61), Matt Heron (69 & 86), Alex Beck (78) and Ondre Odain (89) sent Tuncay Korkmaz’s men back above Spalding at the summit.
For two of our other sides, however, things continue to go from bad to worse.
It’s now eight defeats on the bounce in all competitions for Holbeach, who were crushed 5-1 at Blaby and Whetstone in the FA Vase.
Bourne Town are in equally awful form too. They were handed a 5-2 home reverse by Northampton Spencer and have suffered seven losses on the trot themselves.
In the ChromaSport Peterborough League, Moulton Harrox climbed up to seventh in the Premier Division with a 3-0 home success over Stilton United.
Pinchbeck United were held to a 2-2 draw at home by lowly Oakham United, while Deeping Rangers Reserves battled out a 3-3 draw at Coates Athletic.
Staying in the top flight, Crowland Town went down 2-0 at high-flying ICA Sports.
Down in Division One, on-song Holbeach United Reserves enjoyed a 3-0 derby victory over Moulton Harrox Reserves at Carter’s Park to go fourth, while Long Sutton Athletic are sixth after a 3-1 home triumph over Kings Cliffe.
