FOOTBALL: Tigers stunned, Tulips salvage point, Heron fires Deeping

HOLBEACH United slipped to a surprise 2-1 UCL Premier Division loss at Cogenhoe United on Saturday, while Spalding United scraped a 3-3 draw at basement boys Desborough Town and Deeping Rangers grabbed a fine 1-0 success at S & L Corby.

With boss John Chand named UCL manager of the month for February on Friday, the red-hot Tigers travelled to Cogenhoe as clear favourites.

But they fell 2-0 down in the first half, only managing to pull one back through Andrew Tidswell late on. The loss is only Holbeach’s second of 2012.

Meanwhile, only a last-gasp Ricky Miller penalty secured Spalding a point at rock bottom Ar Tarn. The Tulips had led 1-0 and 2-1, but in the end they were lucky to take home a point.

Ben Porter’s first Spalding goal put them 1-0 up on 19 minutes, only for Dan Kitching (57) to level.

Nine minutes later Miller fired Pat Rayment’s men back ahead, but Jon Mitchell (80) and Eddie Mills (82) looked to have secured a shock three points for Desborough.

Miller had other ideas though, burying a spot-kick in injury time.

Deeping had much better luck on their travels, with Matt Heron’s first-half effort enough to sink hosts S & L Corby.

In UCL Division One, Bourne Town were handed a 4-1 home reverse by Bugbrooke St Michaels. Scott McKenzie fired the Wakes’ goal in the final minute at the Abbey Lawn.

Elsewhere, Luke Wilson’s first-half strike secured a 1-0 derby triumph for Pinchbeck United at Crowland Town in the Peterborough and District Premier Division.

Moulton Harrox were also in winning form, with Martin Gordon (2) and John Ball notching to sink Deeping Rangers Reserves 3-0 at Outgang Road.
