HOLBEACH United’s perfect start to the UCL Premier Division season ended on Wednesday night as they battled out a 0-0 draw with rivals Boston Town at Carter’s Park.
Having won their opening nine league fixtures on the spin, John Chand’s Tigers were bidding to make it a perfect ten against the Poachers.
But the match failed to live up to the hype, with second-placed Holbeach a little subdued. The first period was nip and tuck, with ex-Tiger Simon Mowbray going closest with an effort that Lee Overton tipped onto the post.
Holbeach were much better in the second period and went close to an opener when Andrew Tidswell rattled a strike off the inside of a post, then Craig Parker slipped when one-one-one with keeper Doug Lindberg.
However, the dangerous Mowbray cracked the woodwork for Boston again after rounding Overton – in what proved the biggest chance of the game.
New Holbeach signing Rob Hughes also hit the inside of the post as the hosts piled on the pressure in the closing stages, but they couldn’t find a breakthrough.
The point moves Chand’s side within two points of leaders St Ives with two games still in hand.
