HOLBEACH United made it eight wins on the spin with a 4-1 UCL Premier Division success at Irchester United on Saturday, while Deeping Rangers came from 2-0 down to knock Long Buckby out of the League Cup.
Strike duo Andrew Tidswell took their respective tallies to 20 for the season with a goal apiece for the Tigers, while Luke Kennedy and Dan Flack were also on the scoresheet.
The victory moves John Chand’s men three points clear in second place – and books a top of the table Boxing Day clash with table toppers King’s Lynn Town at The Walks.
If that was impressive, Deeping’s cup heroics at Long Buckby may just top it. Rangers trailed 2-0 at the break in the second round – with one of the goals being a Dave Burton-Jones own goal.
But two goals in 60 seconds from Mark Jones (59) and Matt Heron (60) levelled it up and Jones was even able to miss a penalty before Josh Moreman (80) struck the winner.
Tuncay Korkmaz’s men are the first United Counties League team to beat the Bucks this season.
Deeping will meet the winner of Holbeach’s tie with second-tier Wootton Blue Cross in the next stage.
Meanwhile, Bourne Town’s miserable run in UCL Division One continued, as they were drubbed 5-1 at Buckingham Town.
In the Peterborough and District Premier Division, Pinchbeck United signed off for 2011 with a fine 4-1 triumph at Deeping Rangers Reserves.
A Luke Wilson double and strikes from Danny Maddison and Jon Butler were enough to keep Ian Dunn’s side in the box seat for the title. David Weston replied for Rangers.
Elsewhere, Moulton Harrox’s losing streak continued at Oakham United as they went don 4-3. Bobby Patterson, Ash Coddington and Martin Gordon got the Harrox goals.
