HOLBEACH UNITED 4 (A Stevens 7, Kennedy pen 40, Tidswell 53&90) DEEPING RANGERS 0: Andrew Tidswell’s breathtaking goal wrapped up an eye-catching win for the Tigers.
Boss John Chand likened it to Dennis Bergkamp’s memorable goal for Arsenal against Newcastle, adding: “If it had been seen on Match of The Day, people would be talking about it for six months.
“It was absolutely outstanding.”
The striker received a 20-yard crossfield pass from debutant Daniel Flack, knocking the ball around his marker, peeling off around him and volleying past James Doughty.
It was Tidswell’s second goal of the night. The first was also set up by Flack, a right or left-sided player who has switched from Biggleswade Town after moving to this area.
Flack picked out Tidswell, who rounded Doughty in the blink of an eye to make it 3-0 on 53 minutes.
Ashley Stevens goal - set up by captain Jamie Stevens – and a Luke Kennedy penalty, after Mitch Griffiths had been brought down, had given the Tigers’ a 2-0 half-time lead.
Chand was gushing with praise for his squad, particularly as he’s a big admirer of Deeping Rangers’ style. Tuncay Korkmaz’s freescoring side went into Wednesday night on the back of five straight wins.
Chand said: “I’ve got to say that 4-0 didn’t flatter us.
“I’m a big fan of Deeping’s play and I’m sure they will be in the top six at the end of the season.
“It was a very, very good performance from us and that’s what we’re capable of if the right Holbeach turn up.
“It was a very different case to the defeat by Kempston on Saturday.”
It was slim pickings all night for Deeping with Holbeach keeper Leigh Overton only having clean takes from corners to deal with.
And the visitors’ miserable trip to Carter’s Park got even worse when Spencer Tinkler was given a straight red card on 74 minutes for a stamp on Flack.
The win moved the Tigers up to fifth in the UCL Premier Division Table.
