An injury-time penalty from Spencer Tinkler fired Deeping Rangers to an impressive 2-1 victory at second-placed AFC Rushden and Diamonds in the UCL Premier Division on Tuesday night.
Hosts Diamonds looked set to move seven points clear of third-placed Rangers when Arron Parkinson buried a Matt Gearing cross on three minutes at the Dog and Duck.
But their lead didn’t last long, with big Matt Heron heading home Dan Flack’s delivery on 17 minutes to level the score at 1-1.
Debutant Jamie Graham, signed from Yaxley on Monday night, fired Deeping’s best chance over in what proved an end-to-end second period.
However, Tuncay Korkmaz’s side pinched all three points at the death when Parkinson handled in the box under pressure from Alex Beck, allowing the ever-dependable Tinkler to bury the winner from the spot.
The vital victory moves Deeping a point behind their victims and leaves them bang in the hunt for second place with seven games to play.
Kallum Smith also featured for Rangers, having signed from Grantham Town on Monday.
