Deeping Rangers 2 Desborough Town 0: ROB Hughes struck one of the goals of the season as Deeping brought their losing run to a halt.
Ex-Nottingham Forest midfielder Hughes volleyed home a Matt Heron knock-down from fully 25 yards, prompting Rangers player/boss Tuncay Korkmaz to brand his strike “one of the best goals he’s ever seen.”
Danny French was also on target with a long-range cracker as Deeping eventually broke down a resolute Desborough side on Saturday.
Turkish tactician Korkmaz also talked up defender Dave Cornell, who made a welcome return at Outgang Road.
He said: “We were the better side in the second half and I always felt we could get a goal.
“And to keep a clean sheet is very pleasing as well. Dave Cornell did really well in his first game back in a new-look defence.
“It is no exaggeration when I tell you it is one of the best goals I’ve ever seen at any level of football.”
In addition to his wonder goal, Hughes was named man of the match by match sponsor Coun Bruce Tokens, who is the mayor of Market Deeping.
