DEEPING RANGERS 2 SLEAFORD TOWN 0: Red-hot Rangers were sitting on top of the UCL Premier Division on Tuesday night after slaying county rivals Sleaford at Outgang Road.
Prolific defender Spencer Tinkler opened the scoring on 45 minutes with his fourth goal in as many league games, which makes him the top scoring defender in the UCL.
Kev Gilbert then wrapped up the points with a second in the 78th-minute, as Deeping made it seven league wins on the trot since their opening day defeat to AFC Rushden and Diamonds.
Although Huntingdon Town could have overtaken them at the summit with a win over Yaxley last night (result not know as we went to press), it’s been some start from Tuncay Kormaz’s free-scoring side.
“It’s early days,” said the former UCL Premier Division title-winning boss. “There’s a long way to go, but it’s nice to be top of course.”
“It wasn’t our best performance, but we got the job done. If we could have scored earlier it would have made life a bit easier for us – but that’s been the case in a few games this season.
“Spencer is on a bit of a hot-streak in front of goal, which is great for him. More importantly he’s doing his day job – defending – very well too.”
Korkmaz has a selection headache at Kempton Rovers on Saturday (3pm), with Dan Flack (ban) and Matt Heron (injured) adding to an already lengthy list of absentees.
Deeping: Doughty, Flack, Parker, Tinkler, Cartwright, Burton-Jones, Griffiths, Gilbert, Beck, Heron, Oliver. Subs: Forbes, Odain.
